As dusk falls over Koblenz, a journey to the dark side of art begins at the Ludwig Museum. Familiar spaces become strange, bodies disappear, and objects begin to take on a life of their own. On the Friday before Halloween, we invite you to a special evening where beauty and horror go hand in hand, and abysses open up between dream and reality.
At 6 pm, the Sleepwalking through the Museum begins by electric candlelight with Suzana Leu-Puggioni, research associate, and Marlene Reiche, trainee. Selected works from the collection become the settings for an eerie night: We encounter empty beds and absent bodies, destroyed architectures and grotesque figures, bones, skulls and machines that seem to come alive like ghosts. Join us as we explore the omnipresence of death in art and that elusive sense of uncanniness that arises when something appears both familiar and strange at the same time.
And when the guided tour ends, the night is far from over. At 7:30 pm, the lights go out for “Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror.” F. W. Murnau’s 1922 silent-film classic is one of the great works of early horror cinema and casts the images we have just encountered in an entirely different light.
Spooky snacks and ominous drinks will also be waiting for you.
Witches, zombies, vampires, hybrid creatures and ghosts of all kinds are expressly welcome and will receive one complimentary drink of their choice!

7:30–9 pm: Screening of “Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror” (1922), directed by F. W. Murnau
